Football Champions Visit to Loreto!

8th Dec 2025

This term, some very special visitors came to Loreto! Ballyboden St. Enda's and Dublin Ladies player, Rebecca McDonell arrived on Monday December 1st,with the famous Brendan Martin Cup, won by Dublin in the All-Ireland Ladies Football Championship last year. It was an exciting visit for everyone, as the cup is the biggest prize in Ladies Gaelic Football. The girls were in awe hearing that Rebecca only took up Gaelic Football at the age of eleven!

Rebecca was joined by Daire Sweeney, also a Ballyboden St. Enda’s player, with the Andy Merrigan Cup, won by Daire's team last year in the 'All-Ireland Senior Club Football Championship Final'. There was huge excitement in 2nd Class as the players told us all about their hard training, teamwork, and how proud they were to bring the cups back to BSE and Dublin. Both players were joined by Eamon O' Reilly, BSE Senior Football Team Manager, who may have had a few fans of his own on the day too!

The girls in 2nd Class were delighted to ask the players lots of questions, and the players were so friendly and happy to answer. We learned about their journey to becoming champions and how important it is to keep practising and believing in yourself.

It was a wonderful visit and a day we will all remember.
Up the Dubs and Ballyboden St. Enda's too! 💙🏐
